GULLANE AREA COMMUNITY COUNCIL

The Community Council is a representative body for the villages of Aberlady, Dirleton, Drem, and Gullane.

See the Community Council website: www.GADDabout.org.uk

We are an elected, non-party political organisation. We exist to represent your views on your local community to East Lothian Council and other public authorities such as the police and health authorities. Examples of issues which we cover are:

In other words, since we are close to the people of our local communities we are a pressure group which can bring matters directly to the attention of local government and other authorities. We have a direct line to the Authorities.

We have some funds devolved to us by the Local Authority, which we can use to support local projects.

Our East Lothian Councillor is a faithful attendee at meetings. He is able to bring local views quickly to the attention of elected members and council departments. Our community police representative also attends so that we can cover local law and order issues.

We depend for our effectiveness on getting good input from the people in Aberlady. We get this from direct contact with Community Councillors and from attendees at our monthly meetings, held on the last Thursday of every month (except December) in the village halls of our area. Details and minutes of meetings are on the notice boards. The Aberlady notice board is beside the entrance to Golf Court, opposite the Old Aberlady Inn.

The Aberlady Community Councillors are:

Hugh Heenan 870 298
Ian Malcolm 870 175

Meetings are generally held on the last Thursday of each month, except December. The schedule for 2007 is:

Friday March 1st Direlton village hall
